Acclaimed Houston Healthy Mediterranean-American Fast Casual Concept, Island Grill, to Open First North Side Location at CityPlace Mixed-Use District in Springwoods Village

HOUSTON, TX – December 13, 2018 – CityPlace, a new best-in-class urban mixed-use district anchoring Springwoods Village, has executed a restaurant lease with Island Grill. Island Grill, an acclaimed, locally-based, fast casual concept focusing on healthy Mediterranean-American fare, anticipates debuting its inaugural North Houston location in the 60-acre development in mid-2019.

Island Grill was represented by Eric Lestin of CBRE. Nick Hernandez and Crystal Allen of Transwestern, along with Dennis Tarro of Patrinely Group represented CityPlace, a joint venture of Patrinely Group, USAA Real Estate and CDC Houston. Island Grill joins entertainment and lifestyle tenants Star Cinema Grill, a 10-screen, dine-in movie theater, which opens in the second quarter of 2019, and 24 Hour Fitness, arriving in late 2019.

The restaurant will occupy a prime, 3,584-square-foot street-front space with an outdoor patio in CityPlace 2 (1701 Lake Plaza Drive), situated directly across from the district’s activated central green and the Houston CityPlace Marriott at Springwoods Village, which was formally unveiled last month at a grand opening event. Recently completed, 10-story CityPlace 2 is home to the American Bureau of Shipping, whose 1,200 employees now occupy the building’s entire 327,000 square feet of Class A office space. Just over 21,000 square feet of ground floor retail remains available in the architecturally significant structure, planned for LEED Gold.

Since launching in 2000, Island Grill has earned both popular and critical acclaim plus a large fan base for its relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere, personable service, delicious dishes rooted in tradition, along with extensive, value-oriented catering offerings. Owner Faysal Haddad immigrated to the United States from Syria in 1982, and the menu incorporates a mix of recipes passed down through generations as well as homegrown favorites including an award-winning hamburger. Offerings are crafted using only premium ingredients, showcasing fine meats and seafood, and a multitude of gluten-free and vegetarian options. In addition to the Tanglewood flagship, Haddad and his wife Maria own and operate Island Grill restaurants in Bellaire, Memorial and Rice Village.
